What can I say about Spa Francorchamps?

Spa was meant to be my debut weekend in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux (PCCB), but unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. We arrived early to get some practice laps in and familiarize ourselves with the track. Overall, the practice sessions went fairly well.

However, Spa is home to one of the most famous—and notorious—corners in racing: Eau Rouge. It’s fast, it’s tricky, and it's dangerous.

During qualifying, I managed to complete just two or three laps before disaster struck. Like many drivers, I was pushing hard to take Eau Rouge as quickly as possible. But I made a few critical mistakes, lost control of the steering, and ended up crashing into the wall.

The car was wrecked, and while I walked away with a concussion, fortunately, it wasn’t anything too serious.

That said, my race weekend at Spa was officially over.

On a lighter note, my sister, her friend, my brother, and his girlfriend had all come to watch me race. My sister made the effort to leave home super early to catch the qualifying session. Unfortunately for them, they’d only been there for about 20 minutes when my car was totaled. To make things even funnier, my brother wasn’t even there yet—he showed up in the afternoon and missed everything.

Spa Francorchamps certainly wasn’t my best race weekend, but I’m grateful that things weren’t worse.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you all in Zandvoort!

Until next time,
Dréke Janssen

Special thanks to Janssen Logistics, Strebo Ittervoort and RedAnt for making it possible for me to race in the PCCB.
